Pastoral Message

Dear North Bronx Church Family,

Greetings,

For the past few months, we have been eagerly anticipating the official kickoff of the 2022 season of evangelism with the Jesus Wins prophecy week series. Today, we are just a few hours away. The series begins with Dr. Eddly B. Benoit of the Brooklyn SDA Church Friday March 4, 2022 @7:30pm at the North Bronx SDA Church and on all Social Media Platforms. We invite you to maximize this once in a lifetime opportunity to introduce someone to the person Jesus Christ, our Savior and soon coming King. By doing so we believe according to the Word that the Lord will “add to the church daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:47.

We want you to be prepared as you make plans to attend and participate in the meetings. Over the past few weeks, we have seen a steady relaxing of the COVID19 protocols. This week New York State officially ended its mask mandates for schools, business, and the Greater New York Conference has decided to allow each church to determine the best way forward.

While we embrace these long-awaited changes and recognize the many possibilities they present, we at North Bronx believe that there is still the need to proceed with caution. To provide the safest possible environment we will maintain all screening and safety measures which include:

We are excited however to let you know that we have increased our capacity limits from 126 to 270 individuals.  We will continue to evaluate and apply the best procedures necessary.

We invite you to join us for a dive into the prophetic Word of God, share the meeting links, invite a friend, and remember Jesus Wins.

Clavour R. Tucker

COVID UPDATE 21

Greetings North Bronx Church Family,

It is with regret, that we inform you that the North Bronx Seventh-day Adventist Church will remain temporarily closed for in person worship on Sabbath, January 1, 2022 in response to the increasing COVID-19 disease sweeping across the country. These are uncertain and difficult times, but please know that your health and interest of our community is our number one priority.

We are excited to let you know however, thanks to our skilled and diligent leadership team, that we are currently reevaluating and making the necessary plans to facilitate in person worship as soon possible. We are projecting to have in person worship with adjustments as early as Sabbath, January 8, 2022. We will provide additional briefings with the updated guidelines and procedures prior to reconvening in person worship.

We encourage you to become familiar with our website where you will find inspiring content and easy access to our worship broadcast. Visit us at northbronxsda.org or feel free to email us at clerk@northbronxsda.org or secretary@northbronxsda.org.

COVID UPDATE 20

Greetings North Bronx Church Family,

On Tuesday, December 21, I shared with you concerning the recent developments that were of serious concern for the health and safety our Church and wider community. We noted that on Monday, December20, we learned that someone who was at church on Sabbath, December 18, tested positive for COVID-19.

We sought your patience and support by asking you to get tested and notify those who you know were at Church on the day and date mentioned, and as a community you cooperated.

Over the last forty eight (48) hours, several individuals followed our recommendation and have tested positive for COVID-19, and/are experiencing symptoms. I also regret to inform you that I, Pastor Clavour Tucker, have tested positive for COVID-19.

It is the conviction of the leadership of the Church as well as the health professionals that on this matter, it is our responsibility to consider the health and safety of the Church as priority.

Therefore, it is out of the abundance of caution and study that we have decided to put in effect out COVID-19 closure policy, which means the following:
  • The building will be closed for in person worship on Sabbath, December 25, 2021.
  • Only individuals who are program participants are allowed to enter the building.
  • We will remain closed for in person worship until further notice.

What’s Next?
  1. While we continue to ask and encourage you to get tested, and vaccinated, we realize that there are significant challenges for individuals to get the required testing done, and due to few testing sites and unrealistic wait times. To assist with that, we have asked and have been selected by the Office of the Mayor to be a testing site. We will have more details on this in the next twenty four hours.
  2. We will provide final information regarding in person worship services and what to expect upon our return.
  3. We are currently reevaluating and increasing our health and safety protocols and procedures which will be in effect when in person worship services are returned.
  4. Let us remember to lift in prayer those affected as well as the many families seeking to give care.
  5. We ask that you become familiar with our website where we will maintain communication, inspiring content and timely updates for you. You may find our community at northbronxsda.org and to reach us at any time, please feel free to email us at clerk@northbronxsda.org or secretary@northbronxsda.org

I want to take this time to underscore a few things. One, let us resist the urge to blame, judge or be angry with each other. These are indeed difficult times, and the decisions we make are not personal but with you in mind and with a sensitive conscience. Two, though the protocols and procedures that are in place at the North Bronx SDA Church are some of the most robust and in all cases are extreme than required, COVID-19 is a real monster, one that continues to find new ways to affect out lives, and this variant is beyond anything that as a nation we have dealt with.

I understand that this is not what we had hoped for, and this is certainly not the best time, but let me remind us
“that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Let me also remind us,
“that we know all things work together for good of those who love the Lord, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

Therefore, this will not break us, this will not divide us, but we will continue to trust in the unfailing hand of God who has proven His unwavering faithfulness.

We will get through this.

Sincerely,

Pastor Clavour R. Tucker
Elder Benjamin Powell (First Elder)
Elder Stan Lewin (Risk Management)
Sis Andrea Williams (Health Ministry)

COVID UPDATE 19

God has been merciful to North Bronx Seventh-day Adventist Church and its membership during the past several months. Since August of 2020, we have been able to re-open our church following the strictest of safety precautions. We realize that our first obligation is to protect the health and safety of all who choose to worship with us. We praise the Lord that North Bronx has not been the source of a COVID outbreak.

As we now face the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the positivity rate of new cases in New York has risen above six percent (6%). These numbers are expected to continue to increase in the immediate future. Therefore, in consultation with our Health Ministry, Risk Management and Elders, the North Bronx SDA Church will close for all public worship services beginning December 27, 2020.

Although the church will be closed to public worship, our services shall continue on-line. The door might be closed, but the church is still open for business. Please join us on our Prayer-line, and on our website for dynamic spiritual programming. Continue to check the website for regular updates of church programming and activities.

Be safe, Be strong, Be Blessed.

COVID UPDATE 18

We trust that you are well and that you have been enjoying the blessings of God in your lives. What a privilege we have to be called children of God and to be called to serve Him during these critical times. It is not easy. We have all discovered that we have had to work twice as hard during the COVID crisis than before it. Yet, we have seen the tokens of God’s blessing upon His Church. We must now continue to hold dear the sacred trust that God has placed within our hands. I take heart in the quotation below from the book, Prophets and Kings.

The lesson is for all in positions of trust. When God opens the way for the accomplishment of a certain work and gives assurance of success, the chosen instrumentality must do all in his power to bring about the promised result. In proportion to the enthusiasm and perseverance with which the work is carried forward will be the success given. God can work miracles for His people only as they act their part with untiring energy. He calls for men of devotion to His work, men of moral courage, with ardent love for souls, and with a zeal that never flags. Such workers will find no task too arduous, no prospect too hopeless; they will labor on, undaunted, until apparent defeat is turned into glorious victory. Not even prison walls nor the martyr’s stake beyond, will cause them to swerve from their purpose of laboring together with God for the upbuilding of His kingdom.   {PK 263.1}

As God opens opportunities, we must be prepared to follow His Providence and move forward by faith. He shall bless us in proportion to our faithfulness, These are a few important points of information that we’d like you to take note of for this weekend.

Church Opening:

The North Bronx SDA Church is committed to your health and safety. As such we are constantly monitoring the public health information from the City of New York, the State and the CDC as we go into week 2 of Phase 1 of our reopening plan that began August 1st. As we reopen the doors of the building, we do realize that we shall have to adjust to a new normal and so here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • The church will be deep cleaned before and after each service
  • Temperature checks will be taken at the door
  • Social distancing and face coverings will be required at all times
  • We are asking those who may be in a high-risk category due to age, or health condition to enjoy the service at home until the city allows for full capacity with fewer restrictions.
Please see the website (CLICK HERE) for a complete guide on what to expect and prepare for as you join us for worship. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sabbath School Old and New:

The online version of Sabbath School has continued to grow weekly as hundreds tune in to study the Word of God. But although we are using new ways of delivering the message, we celebrate that several of our Sabbath School classes are still meeting electronically for old fashion prayer, fellowship, and study.

Some classes have merged in order to further enrich the experience. Please check with your teacher for possible times when you can join your class for prayer. Also, as we enter Phase 1 of the reopening plan, our Sabbath School and Lesson Study will continue to be broadcasted online.

COVID UPDATE 17

We trust that you are well and that you have been enjoying the blessings of God in your lives. This season has continued to challenge our existential reality. It continues to challenge how we connect, how we worship together, how we support each other and even how we continue to do the mission of Christ. Yet, even in the midst of this ongoing phenomenon, we continue to experience the grace of God which is new every morning.
Furthermore, we are seeing the Church of God being put to use in simply amazing ways. This is so because what we have been called to do, and must do, “is not by might nor by power, but by the spirit of the Living God”. Hence, whatever the challenge, whatever the battle we will continue to be the City on the hill that cannot be hid.

“The church is God’s appointed agency for the salvation of men. It was organized for service, and its mission is to carry the gospel to the world. From the beginning it has been God’s plan that through His church shall be rejected to the world His fullness and His sufficiency. The members of the church, those whom He has called out of darkness into His marvelous light, are to show forth His glory. The church is the repository of the riches of the grace of Christ; and through the church will eventually be made manifest, even to ‘the principalities and powers in heavenly places,’ the final and full display of the love of God.” Ephesians 3:10
The Acts of the Apostles, pp. 10–13.

COVID UPDATE 16

Over the past few months we have seen and experienced elements of life and living that are truly faith testing, but that’s not all we have seen and experienced. As people of the Word we have been able to see and experience things that “prophets searched intently to understand and angels longed to look”. We have found the Word of God to be an even more sure anchor in a time of trouble.

However, consider this council also has insight for the times we are experiencing;

“The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place- that the work is on the verge of stupendous crisis”.
Prophets and Kings 537, c.1914

“The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude. The agencies of evil are combing their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last Great crises. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones”-
Testimonies for the church 9:11 (1909).

What then is our response? Let us apply our hearts unto wisdom, let us pray with intent for the outpouring of the Spirit, let us lay aside every weight that keeps us from walking with God, let us seek to heal and not destroy, let us seek to grow and not die, let us do all that we can to share the love of Jesus, let us lift up the name that is above name that He might draw His people to Him, let us go and grow in
the power of His might. Below you will find a few details we would like you to note.

COVID UPDATE 15

Greetings North Bronx family, it gives us great honor to be able to continue to minister to you in this very interesting time. We trust that you and your family continue to stay safe. We’d like you to pay attention to the following details.

The world is not without a ruler. The program of coming events is in the hands of the Lord. The Majesty of heaven has the destiny of nations as well as the concerns of His church in His own charge.

-Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 753 (1889).

In the great closing work we shall meet with perplexities that we know not how to deal with, but let us not forget that the three great Powers of heaven are working, that a divine hand is on the wheel, and that God will bring His purposes to pass.

-Evangelism, p. 65 (1902).

In the annals of In the annals of human history, the growth of nations, the rise and fall of empires, appear as if dependent on the will and prowess of man; the shaping of events seems, to a great degree, to be determined by his power, ambition, or caprice. But in the Word of God the curtain is drawn aside, and we behold, above, behind, and through all the play and counterplay of human interest and power and passions, the agencies of the All-merciful One, silently, patiently working out the counsels of His own will.

Prayer Line:
We have all been blessed by the nightly Prayer Line Dynamic devotionals, and fervent prayer is offered to our Lord. Gather the family and join us in worship each night from 8-9 pm. Please don’t miss your blessing. Prayer line phone number: 617-793-8520.

Support for Media Ministry:
We praise God that our worship services are reaching hundreds of people around the country and around the world. Because of your continued support, we have been able to make significant upgrades to our audio equipment. This will ensure a cleaner and richer audio experience. Please continue to support this ministry with your donations.

Joseph’s Storehouse Receives Grant:
The Greater New York Conference has selected the North Bronx SDA Joseph’s Storehouse to be a primary food distribution site for the Conference. The Conference Community Services Director, Pastor Biazotto, visited Joseph’s Storehouse on Friday, July 9, 2020 to make the announcement to the staff. Through a joint venture with the Northeastern Conference, Greater New York will share 20,000 pounds of food weekly. Because of our proximity and our mission, Joseph’s Storehouse will be able to secure even more food to assist with our growing need. Thank you to the Conference, and especially to the staff and volunteers of Joseph’s Storehouse. Joseph’s Storehouse continues to serve 450 families per week making it one of the largest distributions in the Bronx.
